ECI FFA Member Wins at State FFA Horse Show

ECI FFA member, Olivia Rigdon, competed in the State FFA Horse Show held in Rabun County on August 27, 2011.  Members from different counties throughout the state competed for the title of High Points Champion.  Olivia competed in four classes in English Division.  She placed third in Senior Advanced Showmanship where exhibitors are to show horses in hand and perform a pattern known by knowledge of horse showmanship. She was judged on presence, manners, cleanliness, and soundness of her animal.  The second class was senior advanced English Equitation in which she placed first.  Olivia performed a pattern known by knowledge and she was judged as the rider.  The third class is the senior advanced hunter under saddle.  She placed fourth in this class where the horse was judged on its movements as it walks, trots, and canters on the rail.  The final class of the English Division is senior advanced hunter hack.  Olivia placed first as she jumped two jumps and showed on the rail.  They were judged on the horse and the rider as well as their distance before and between the jumps.  Overall Olivia was named the winner of English, senior advanced.  The second division Olivia competed in was the Western Division.  Olivia placed third in senior advanced showmanship which was judged on the same as English Division but the handling of the horse is in different form.  The second class was the senior advanced horsemanship in which she placed second.  The competitors were to show one handed with western tack and perform a given pattern.  The third class was the senior advanced western pleasure.  Olivia placed third as her horse was judged on calmness as she walked, jogged, and loped the horse.  The final class of this division was the senior advanced trail.  Olivia placed first and was judged on the effectiveness to maneuver over and around obstacles as it is timed.  She also competed in pole bending and placed second.  Olivia was named Western Division champion.  Her total points were tallied and she was named the high points champion of the senior competitors at the State FFA Horse Show.  Olivia Rigdon is a senior at ECI as well as the ECI FFA’s chapter president this year.  Olivia enjoys showing her horse, Rocky, which is a twelve year old Paint.  She was accompanied by her parents, Allen and Donna Rigdon and her agricultural instructor/FFA Advisor Tori Meadows.  Pictured are Olivia Rigdon, Rocky, and Tori Meadows.
